BFT will introduce new Flush Mount models of its popular cellular access system. These new models will allow for easy installation in columns and apartment buildings. The systems come with an external antenna for remote mounting. A new WiFi video model will introduce that allows the homeowner to not only speak to the visitor from anywhere in the world but to see the visitor as well. The camera allows for 640 x 480 pixels with 100 degree of viewing angle using the Wi-Fi network from the homeowner’s residence with a 200 yard range.

The phone access systems provide entry to properties using cellular 3G GSM technology. Soldering/tinning your connections can prevent repeat service calls.

It is important to solder/tin electrical loop connections to prevent oxidization. Tinning your connections might seem like a hassle, especially if you aren’t aware that portable butane powered soldering irons exist. BD Loops is now carrying BERNZOMATIC’s ST2200-T Trigger Start Micro Torch which comes with a soldering tip.

Tinning the loop connections is a must with inductance loops, wire nuts are just not enough. Often installers will use wire nuts to connect the two wires together. The problem with this is that wire nuts are made for 110-220 volt circuits. Most loop detectors energize the loop with only 3-6 volts. At this low voltage any oxidization of the wire joint can cause enough resistance to cause the detector to have false trips or to lock up. To save on repeat service calls soldering the connections is a must. Having to go out to a jobsite that is experiencing intermittent loop problems just because the wires are not making a solid electrical connection is a waste of time. This is an issue that many installers will not diagnose correctly when troubleshooting and will often end up replacing perfectly good detectors or loops.
